Qué será será...?
The fleet of the Archipelago Raid raced today among the busiest part of the Stockholm Archipelago, starting at Norra Stavsudda, Värmdö, finishing leg seven in Grinda and from there to Runmarö and finally the headquarter at “Sailing Mecca” Sandhamn. The teams are really, really tired now, having gone on for five days in a row with the two last days of winds up to 20 knots. Only few teams are untouched by damages but all of them are keeping the spirit high. Swedish Team Thule with Martin Strandberg and Johan Örtendahl won both legs today. They dominated the entire second leg right from the start. It was only at the first checkpoint that it was a very tight finish with them and team Mc Donalds Huysman. Team Thule won by – paddling, a common activity in the Archipelago Raid. The teams are allowed to paddle but never with the jib up at the same time. Paddling is more popular among the younger and stronger crew than among the “experienced”. Team Thule managed to keep the competition away for both legs today and finished first at Sandhamn. At the start of leg 2, Team Citus were early over the line and were recalled. It looked like it was a bigger chance for Thule but the Frenchmen are really fast and made a great recovery and finished second. A big grin on Eric Proust’s face at the dock could tell about how pleased he was. Team Audio Network had a tough day; they damaged two of their dagger boards and lost a lot of speed during the second leg. William Sunnucks think they are definitely out of the battle for the victory: “Now it´s between Citus and Thule, and my bet would be fifty-fifty.“ Day 5 showed intense sailing and many incidents and it is all open for tomorrow’s final day. Thule is only 3 points behind Citus. Even though it is a really hard race, most sailors would like to do it all over again when asked at the dock. Yvan Bourgnon says that this edition of the Archipelago Raid has been the toughest for him, but still, he would love to do it again. Stay tuned for tomorrows wrap up!
