The competitors talk about the Archipelago Raid
Right after they arrived Wednesday 18th of June, we asked the competitors to give us their impressions about the Raid :

Eric Proust and Romain Motteau, Team Kalix : "We prepared the Archipelago Raid for about a month. During the Raid, we managed our time carfeully : we had moments when we saved our energy, others when we accelerated. The competitors were all very interesting! If we had to describe the Archipelago Raid in three words, we'd say it is hard, superb, unique..."

Martin Strandberg, Team Thule : "Today was the toughest day. For us, tough mentally because we had a big lead in the leg 11, and we had those big problems with our dagger-board that made us lose time... We loved the Archipelago Raid. It's long and tiring, but it's a nice way of sailing in the nature, in the archipelago. Johan's navigation is superb. I believe he should win the navigation contest ! It's our first long race, for both of us, and we enjoyed sailing together. We will try to come next year. And we'll be dangerous !"

Ellen MacArthur, on BT : "Greg and I are happy with our results. We were not here to win, but to finish. We learned a lot, every day. Even when we were tired we had a lot of fun, because of the sailing and also because we laughed on the boat, so it gives energy. All the competitors are great, relaxed but top-level ! We see the difference between those who have the experience of the raid and us for example, in what they bring onboard...Well, simply, the Archipelago Raid is great !

Ronny Haals, on Åbit : "The Archipelago Raid is a priviledge : sailing and racing in such a place, on distances that long, and being taken care of by an organisation, it's a priviledge. The Raid was educationnal for us. We learned a lot, we are much better sailors now than we were at the beginning !"

Patrick Demesmaeker and Michel Proot, on RBSC-Huysman : "It was just great, not much more to add !!! The whole race was amazing, and the last day killed us ! For sure we'll come back next year !"

Karin Almquist, on GB Glace : "We had a very good time. Today was very hard but we had a lot of fun. I'm glad we knew each other before doing the Archipelago Raid, we saved energy and time ! It was difficult but we held on !"

Conrad Humphreys and Ryan Crawford, on Team Blue Oceans : "Its was absolutely fantastic. Extreme sailing, in a great environment... For us, the easiest day of this Raid was harder than last year's hardest day. But we were better and faster every day !"

Jari-Pekka Kiiski, on Cottonfield: "The Archipelago Raid is a very good idea. It's hard, very fun, and great to sail in those conditions with an organisation which helps to do it without problems... We liked it, and we'll try to come back !!!"

Matti Nieminem, on N-Group : "The raid was what I expected. There is a lot of work for us to do. My brother and I never had an experience like this one and in fact it went much better between us that we thought ! It was a good surprise, and I believe we will come back ! It's a great event, we loved it."
